Multiple Ways to Route Your Calls

Different situations call for different forwarding setups. Here's what's available on every extension.

Unconditional Forward

All calls go straight to another number immediately. Your desk phone doesn't ring at all. Good for when you're out of the office all day or working remotley from a different location.

Forward on No Answer

Desk phone rings for a set number of seconds (you pick how long), then the call forwards to your cell or another number. The most common setup — try the desk first, then follow up on mobile.

Forward on Busy

If you're already on a call, the next incoming call forwards to another number instead of going to voicemail. Keeps callers from hitting a dead end when your line is tied up.

Simultaneous Ring

Your desk phone and cell phone ring at the exact same time. Answer from whichever one is closer. This is the "follow me" setup that field workers and outside sales reps love.

Follow Me (Sequential)

Calls ring your desk for 15 seconds, then your cell for 15 seconds, then your home office. You define the order and timing. The system works through the list until someone picks up.

Failover Routing

If your internet goes down or your phone goes offline, calls automatically reroute to a backup number. Your customers never know anything happened. Continuity without any manual intervention.

Call Forwarding FAQ

Can I turn forwarding on and off myself?

Yes. You can toggle call forwarding from your desk phone using a feature code, or contact us and we'll change it for you. Some customers set it on a schedule — forwarding activates automatically after business hours and turns off in the morning.

Can I forward to a cell phone in a different area code?

Absolutely. Forward to any US phone number regardless of area code. Your customer in Chicago calls your 847 number and it rings your 312 cell or your 630 home office. Location doesn't matter.

Does forwarding to my cell cost extra?

No. Call forwarding is included with your VoipPlus account. There's no per-minute charge for forwarded calls and no add-on fee to enable it. It's part of the 50+ features that come standard.

What happens if my cell doesn't answer either?

You choose the final destination. It could be voicemail, another person's extension, a ring group, or a call queue. The call always has somewhere to go.

Will callers know the call was forwarded?

No. The caller hears normal ringing. They don't know whether you answered at your desk, on your cell phone, or from a beach in Florida. It's completely seamless from their end.

Can I forward calls based on time of day?

Yes. Time-based routing lets you set different forwarding rules for business hours, lunch, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Calls during business hours ring your desk; after-hours calls go straight to your cell or an answering service.
